The way I toggle back and forth from your newsletter to the library app! (This is not new news but anyway). All three books reserved - Piglette for me and the children’s books for me and my son. Thanks always, I bloody LOVE your reccos so much and reading this newsletter is like getting an email from a well-read friend. Have a beautiful week Pandora and everyone! 💛
This was so interesting...and something I would never have known about before I read your post. And as I've written a novel about occupied France--the passage about Resistance/Collaborators (and not everyone was one or another)--really got my attention. It's on the list! Thank you!
This sounds absolutely delightful! A bike ride to Paris, funded by sausage sales- I'm in!
I'm 30 years old but have recently been on a bit of a YA kick that began with Caroline O'Donoghue's All Our Hidden Gifts series. It's lovely just getting caught up in a story without having to think too much. I'm finding that, rather than watch TV or scroll my phone, I can sit down and read a book from start to finish, like I did when I was a Harry Potter-obsessed teen. Such a joy!
I love all your writing but especially your book reviews! You say you trust Katherine Rundell’s opinion implicitly - I feel the same about you and promptly ordered Piglettes (and The Golden Mole). A decade older than you, ordering a YA book feels like an act of defiance on my part 😂 Thank you!
I've been trying to put my finger on who her tone reminds me of... I think Heiny is a bit more offbeat, bits of it feel quite Roald Dahl! The little piggies and Mummy dearest etc, but less vicious
So excited to read this book and to share it with my 22 yo daughter! Thank you, Pandora, for delving into this genre. As a writer, I have often felt that YA is a good place to start. It feels less threatening than Adult Fiction. There is no need to be a literary phenom and more need to be authentic and relatable, and of course tell a good story!
Maybe that's it - less pressure for everyone. But ironically I think this one SHOULD be a phenomenon... something feel good, sweet and tender, without being earnest or obvious. A marvel!

I'm so glad to hear about this toggle! And god bless library apps <3
So, so delighted to see some love for this brilliant and very underrated book!

This sounds absolutely brilliant. I’m adding it to my wishlist right now.

Yes! I always forget about her YA books. Adored The Rachel Incident, think she gets better with every book
I found a copy secondhand today! The luck! My teen daughter and I are in for a French piglette treat x
Yay for second hand. Love a battered book too!
This sounds amazing!
I’m already halfway thru Piglettes - thank you! 🙏 J’adore!
de rien!

I am such a fan of a secret low-stakes micro-defiance
The tone of some of the excerpts you share reminds me of Katherine Heiny! I’m intrigued, thanks for sharing ☺️
