Hi Pandora, I just wanted to say thank you for keeping these newsletters free. As a musician with limited funds I’m so grateful. I’ve been following you since the high low, and was definitely missing your book recommendations! Also getting fed up with Instagram and looking for alternative ways to keep up with the people and things I like to follow. So thank you 😊
Hi Pandora - happy birthday to Books + Bits :) Longtime High Low devotee, so happy to be able to follow along on this platform. In the past you've asked for book rec requests, so thought I would throw one in...after many years of scheming, I've just fulfilled a lifelong dream of moving to London! (I'm from the states) Are there any books you would recommend that are set in London and have an amazing sense of place / might help me learn more about the culture/people/history of different neighborhoods? Thank you!! xx
Thank you so much for keeping this free. I know everyone deserves to be paid but the nature of this site makes it unaffordable for me (newly disabled). I love being able to read your writing! 🤗
Let’s pay £5.00 a month for a plummy already wealthy woman to tell us where to buy candlesticks ? If she just stuck to the book thing she’d have a bit more gravitas.
You are reading a free edition of the newsletter. The List goes out once a month to paying subscribers - other than that, it's books and culture reccs. And the idea that I shouldn't get paid - when I have 3 children to raise - is your problem, not mine. I suggest you move on.
Happy Substack birthday! I love this newsletter so much, have just had the notification to say my gifted subscription is ending & I’m so grateful to you for letting me read your work over the past year where I otherwise wouldn’t have been able to afford to, thank you!
Congrats on the anniversary Pandora! I love receiving your newsletter. I binged the post office series on Sunday. It’s equal parts infuriating and heart-wrenching and it’s an absolute travesty that people are still waiting for compensation after all these years. Very much enjoying S2 of The Traitors as well and excited to see how it’s gonna wrap up this week.
I love receiving these Books + Bits posts - a real treat to accompany many cups of tea before I force myself to get outside.. so many great suggestions to go on the to read/visit/watch list. Have you heard the theory that Van Gogh drew inspiration for Starry Night from Katsushika Hokusai’s The Great Wave of Kanagawa?
I didn’t know that! I did know he was inspired by Japanese lithographs (did I get that wrong? I know he was inspired by Japanese art in some form as he wanted his Arles Bedroom one to be really flat or something)
This is an INCREDIBLE reply - I am so grateful! Thank you. Going to add to my listening list. (And if you like ethical crime (aka true crime with a purpose) I really recommend The Missing which I do, um, host but which is made in partnership with 2 missing persons charities and the stories are all told by the missing person's families)

The money she makes from this is insane.
