So happy to see this! Absolutely loved Book Chat and keeping the conversation going with specials is perfect ❤️
I did post an earlier comment thinking I had already listened to this, because I could just hear you and Bobby discussing - obvs early morning but also predictive anticipation.
Was saving this episode until I'd finished the TV series and it was just the companion reactionary listen I needed. The only thing to add is that I think the set designers really understood their brief - honestly when the white fairy liquid bottle was shown I flipped out!
It's such a wonderful story, a truly modern masterpiece and one that makes me want to revisit other (less masterful perhaps) reads from the era to fully relive it, after all they do say nostalgia goes in 30 year cycles...
Actually, on that note, Dylan Jones's book Faster than a Canonball: 1995 and all that, is a really good look at that era and all of its components. Bobby may find the chapter about lads' mags particularly interesting.
Finally listened to this after rereading the book post watching the tv show, which was amazing. My husband, who is very anti romcom, is now quite keen to watch it but has no idea about how it ends and I honestly don’t know if I should warn him or not. I suspect if I do warn him he won’t want to watch as he hates a spoiler but I don’t know if he will forgive me for the emotional trauma that will inevitably follow. Also, thank god Book Chat has disappeared completely!
Really enjoyed your chat, thanks for sharing it with us. I watched the Netflix series with my husband who DIDN'T know the end. I found a few episodes in the middle dragged a bit, but waiting for his reaction kept me plugging away and it didn't disappoint!
Thank you Pandora and Bobby - so many of the bits you mention have stayed with me too since I first read - the hardback remains on my desk…. Now I am watching it with my husband and HE DOESN’T KNOW HOW IT ENDS 😱😭 😱😭
Now we’re cooking with gas!!

Loved the podcast episode. Makes me want to go back and read the book and watch the Tv series again at the same time
I haven't even listened to the episode yet, but I feel the need to say - this is the best news to wake up to! How I missed Book Chat ❤️
finally read the book so here I am!
IT'S NEVER TOO LATE

I didn't know! I was so shocked when it happened!

Loved this episode! So happy to have the occasional book chat via the newsletter, and this one was perfect listening!

I actually feel most sorry for you, forced to bear witness to such shock and distress
Just finished a re-read and almost done with series, so this was perfectly timed! Thank you!
This was a delight, thank you!
Thank you for this! On point and has inspired my re-read (and re-watch?) Modern classic indeed.
Thank you for this delightful deep dive into the book, film, and tv series. It's emblematic of what a great story it is.
So glad book chat is back!!!
