The great '90s movie project
My husband I have decided to re-watch the decade's finest. Here's our working list
For those of you unfamiliar, The Rewatchables is a vg pop-culture podcast where a bunch of culture writers at The Ringer groupchat seminal movies, with a keen eye for detail and lashings of trivia (who was on the casting couch, who was a nightmare on set, who was paid what, etc.) I only listen to the episode if I have watched the movie but if I have, then I get an illegal amount of pleasure from this show. My husband loves the Top Gun Maverick one so much he has listened to it ten times. (And yes, it blows my mind that he can willingly listen to the same podcast episode ten times.)
My favourite episodes are their ones about ‘90s movies because - duh! - I am a millennial and therefore obsessed with this decade and - duh! - the ‘90s was the best decade for films. Before you go, OH NO IT WASN’T! like we are in a panto, I implore you to read our working list of what we are planning to re-watch (or occasionally, watch for the first time) and then tell me it wasn’t a golden era for (not always subtle, but damn watchable!) movies. Not including any Bonds, btw, because that’s another project for another decade.
Just to clarify, when I say we are doing our own version of The Rewatchables - fear not, I do not mean we are making a podcast. I just mean that it’s fun to have a project, when 99% of our time spent together is active parenting, where we just watch movies while Googling and gossiping on the sofa. We are going to try and watch one from our list every 2 weeks - and I’m hoping it will be a sweet incentive to sit down together, which we rarely have time to do.
It’s going to take us about 2 years - but here… we…. GO!
