How prescriptive should you be about what your newly-reading child reads?

I don’t often write about my parenting - it’s sacrosanct and shape-shifting - but I wanted to share a disagreement I had with my daughter last weekend, because even as I was disagreeing with her, I was tussling with it myself. And I’m still tussling with it!
