Book Thoughts: Free Therapy by Rebecca Ivory
This debut reminds me of my most favourite short story collections
I’ve written many a time about my love for short stories. Their snapshot format enables something profound and frequently unnerving - a vignette suspended in aspic. I find the writing can be stronger, the plot needing only to sustain itself for 5,10,20 pages and the mood deliciously specific. I am drawn to bleaker material in short stories, too - although I am not entirely sure why.
