10 things giving me joy right now
summer salads, my mum's vintage books, and my Jellycat doppelgänger
My mum has been collecting Observer pocket books for the last three decades. They started printing them in the 1930s and finished about 20 years ago. She’s trying to build up a set for each of us (hence the multiples) because she is heavenly like that. The books themselves range from 10p to £4, and she buys them from charity shops, car boot sales, etc. The subject matter can be, shall we say, niche (I can’t imagine the one on lichen is a particularly rollocking read) but I love how they all look together. Tremendous amounts of joy and calm to be found in their uniformity. God, I wish book covers would go back to something more zen. Anyone else find all the hot pinks and turquoise a bit of an eye-sore on their bookshelves?
I mainly use Vinted to buy clothes for my kids but I recently discovered Wunder Duds which is great. A little more expensive than Vinted, but still less than the cost of the high street. This little broderie anglaise skirt! And only £3.
Summer is most definitely not here but that doesn’t mean the summer salads can’t be. (I’m not a particularly adventurous cook but I make a mean risotto, a decent laksa and a very good salad or three.) This is a terrible photo, I should have thought ahead, but here are my current faves.
